The kick off meeting of the project Europe In Question - EIQ was held with great success on 11 & 12 of May 2017 in Municipality of Tanagra with its partners establishing the ground for a fruitful cooperation. The project EIQ is being implemented under the Europe for Citizens 2014-2020 Programme and the partnership consists of the following organizations:

  • Siawns Teg, United Kingdom
  • Forestry Municipalities Association of Comunitat Valenciana, Spain
  • The Innovation and Development Institute Principe Real, Portugal
  • Foundation for the Promotion of Social Inclusion (FOPSIM), Malta
  • Development Immigration Cooperation Association-DICA ONLUS, Italy
  • Empaatia NGO, Estonia

The above network aspires to become a best practice for the empowerment of civic participation of those citizens who have not been involved so far, or who reject the Union outright of put in question its achievements. Throughout a series of events that will take place in seven different territories from seven different European Countries, citizens, stakeholders and policy makers are encouraged to participate, discuss and create contents for proposals in the following key problem areas: refugee crisis, rise of terrorism, EURO, further enlargement, BREXIT, euroscepticism and Europhobia, recession and employment.

Mr Vasilis Pergalias, Mayor of Municipality of Tanagra, welcomed the participants, stakeholders and speakers and highlighted the need for the encouragement of democratic and civic participation of citizens at union level hoping the project Europe In Questions will motivate people to discuss about the kind of EU they want. Following the project partners presented the profile of their organizations and their activities in consistency with the project objectives. Within the frame of the technical meeting partners discussed about the implementation plan of the EIQ project in accordance with the administrative and financial obligations of the Programme.

The EIQ partners had also the opportunity to experience the customs and traditions of Tanagra, visiting folklore and archaeological museums of the area.

The overall budget of the project “Europe In Question - EIQ is 150.000 and is funded by 100% from EACEA (Education, Audiovisual & Culture Executive Agency) of the European Commission under the Europe for Citizens Programme (Strand2: Democratic engagement and civic participation - Action 2.2: Network of Towns). The project duration is 24 months from 01/01/2017 to 31/12/2018.
